SO Bran Inc is Hiring an Animal Caretaker I (floater) Near Atlanta, GA

This is your most current job description. Job descriptions are intended to be general to the position overall and may not be specific to your exact job or assignment in a particular facility. This job description is based on current contractual obligations and subject to change at any time with or without prior notice.

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Floater for SoBran's animal care contract site in Atlanta, GA. All employees are expected to arrive at work at the time specified for the position to which they are assigned. Work hours typically occur between 7:00 and 4:30pm M-F. These assignments may include working on weekends and holidays and will be at the discretion of the Program Management Staff. Weekend/Holiday hours range from 7:00am - 4:30pm.

This person is expected to have a general familiarity with day-to-day activities in facilities working with multiple species. We expect the Floater to be forward thinking and able to use their knowledge of basic facility practices to accomplish tasks in an array of positions and assignments.

Responsibilities:

Primary duties may include but not limited to:

  • Understands and follows all SOP's and Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Accurately conduct inventory counts of supplies and assist with supply ordering processes
  • Organize and file paperwork as directed
  • Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft excel, and ability to learn and use internal software systems
  • Performs daily activities of a cagewash technician (duties may include but are not limited to): Clean and sanitize all animal caging and accessory equipment and maintain the cage washing area in a clean, neat and well organized manner b. Dispose of waste from the facility c. Help with cage changing and room sanitation d. Identify cracked, broken, malfunctioning caging, removing from rotation and reporting to supervisor e. Perform routine preventive maintenance on the cage washing equipment f. Assist in maintaining a clean and well organized facility g. Familiar with Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in the facility h. Submit written records, charts, logs i. Receive and store supplies, feed and bedding j. Record environmental and mechanical parameters in the am and pm k. Disposes of carcasses following standard SOP's and policies
  • Performs daily activities of an animal caretaker (duties may include but are not limited to): Changes animal caging, to include feed and water, according SOP's and/or specific approved protocols and the schedule established by floor supervisor b. Sexes and weans animals according the SOP's c. Maintains daily animal census sheets, room equipment and status form sheets, and other forms requested by the floor supervisor d. Cleans and sanitizes animal facility and assigned rooms according to SOP's e. Maintains and repairs animal caging and support equipment f. Receives, examines, transfers, identifies and properly houses incoming animal shipments according to SOP's g. Assist with the restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as requested by the investigators h. Assist in any contract related activity as assigned by the floor supervisor or complete daily assignments i. Performs required tasks with farm animals at Lawrenceville campus as necessary. May include, but not limited to: performing physicals, administering treatments, sample collection, animal restraint

Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period.
  • Routinely safely handles and disposes of hazardous (biohazardous, radiological, or chemical) materials.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Expectation of certification at ALAT level with equivalent training and experience
